Thanks to both of you for your comments. As an editor for science journals, I’ve noticed the same thing in terms of unneeded length, Nancy. In defense of Hank, my 16-minute essays still get about a 40% read rate, so the “serious” readers clearly don’t mind as much — you might imagine that the read rate would be down closer to 0% if length was everything. Finally, I’d probably have more than 65 views if I’d edited this essay down to four minutes! Thanks again, John
